Here's What You Should Know About Portable Saunas
|
If you don't want a home sauna or one outside, but still like the idea of a sauna, then perhaps portable saunas are just your thing. There's a fair selection of them on the market, but you really should be doing your research into them before you consider buying portable saunas. Not the least of which is, what is the definition of "portable" manufacturers use compared to what you think it means. Portable saunas means to many people literally that - you can pick it up and take it anywhere. Well, some of the so called portable saunas you can buy are hardly ones you can pick up and take with you, even if you can put them up and take them down in a few minutes. You have to figure that 92 pounds or more is hardly in the really portable category. Now, modular saunas are considered to be portable. But not too many places actually sell them, as they have foam insulation in the panels. And foam gives off toxic gasses when subjected to high temperatures. Makes you wonder why they make them doesn't it? Portable saunas can come in many different designs, and you can choose a portable steam unit or an infrared sauna. The infrared portable sauna is 92 pounds and actually operates as a small appliance. It gets right down to business immediately with no warm-up period and heats just your body, not the air around you. It can be set up in 15 minutes and plugs into AC. It looks a bit like a tanning bed, but don't be fooled, it isn't. You do lie down in it like a tanning bed (inside it) and operate the controls. You can set the time and length of your sweating session. This sauna operates at a safe temperature of 150 degrees F and doesn't need any warm up time. This is a good alternative to building a full size sauna. Calling it portable is a bit of a stretch though, as you would need more than one person to carry this unit. However it is good for apartment and condo living when you don't have much room for a full sized home sauna. One thing though, and you have to really read the fine print when you do research on portable saunas, is check out the claims that they are ideal for weight management. Find the scientific proof of that before you put money out on portable saunas. There is one model being sold on the Internet that looks a bit like a toaster cover, but claims it works well. It comes with a sauna tent, steam pot, sauna chair, head cover, waterproof mat, foot plate, glove, connecting hose and supply hose. The Beauty home portable steam sauna actually defies description, but it does fit more into the definition of portable, because you can literally fold the tent up. Bottom line? Make sure you do your research, ask questions, go see the products for yourself and you won't go wrong. If you're looking for portable saunas, you definitely need to compare prices, sizes, what they are made of and how sturdy they are, and whether or not they are indeed truly portable and easy to move about. |
